Using
your 9"x12" Field sketchbook:
Create
a sketch of these EIGHT different character types that use the idea of
archetypes:
HERO, SHADOW, MENTOR, HELPER, GUARDIAN,
TRICKSTER, HEROLD, THE LACKEY, (you may also sketch other archetypes
you research)
YOUR CHARACTERS CAN BELONG TO THE SAME STORY
Look
up more information on the definition of these character types if necessary.
You don't necessarily have to have a single story that all
the characters belong. Focus on characteristics and archetypes alone.
Chose
FOUR of the most successful, and create NEW finished model-sheet designs in color. You may use Photoshop or Sketchbook
Pro recreate these digitally and add more layers/detail/complexity.*
Be prepared to present a back-story to each character, and a basic story that they act within. You do NOT have to explain a complete story or plot. Simply answer: How did they meet? How do any 2 achetypes uniquely behave when they interact? What visual features of each character help define its particular archtype? What would it take to change any of your characters? What might be a surprising way one archetype might be mistaken for another during an interaction? How can you describe the identity of your characters emotionally and mentally? What are their goals, desires and fears?
Be
prepared to talk about your four characters and your process, research,
and your creative ideas!
What to turn in:
-8 sketches of archetypal characters (roughs)

for example: Front, 3/4 view, Side or Back)
*You
must bring ACTUAL artwork to class, as well submit DIGITAL copies
of ALL drawings to dropbox.
