FORESHADOWING

Sometimes a story will reveal itself through foreshadowing coming events. In other words, subtle suggestion will be shown to the audience giving them an inkling the story that is about to unfold. While it is usually not obvious at the time, the signs will become clear in retrospect.

The reason writes use foreshadowing is to keep the audience interested and to build the tension, If a story does not alert the audience that conflict is on the horizon, what keeps them in their seats? How does as the tension build? What is the coming disaster.
