Oral Traditions
Throughout Human History stories have been orated (read aloud) for many reasons The foremost was to preserve the culture's historical record and to pass information from generation to generation. In doing so, there is an established sense of self and community. While text offers the benefits of publication and reaching a broader audience, one should never underestimate the power of the spoken word. In fact, most of the world's religions began through verbal communication, Christianity, for example started as tales told through several generations, sometimes at great peril to the teller. No matter your personal beliefs there is no denying that from these stories our world has been altered.*
