UV unwrapping help

unwrapping UV's on a head a pain in the ass?...try this trick

 

(1) After you have completed your model (a head), make a duplicate of it

(2) apply Polygons, Average Vertices.

(3) apply this multiple times until the head model no longer has major undercut regions

around the areas of the nose, lips, eyes, and ears.

(4) apply a cylindracal UV coordinate projection with a simple grid texture

(5) tile it a few times so you can see how the UVs are mapping onto your model

(6) transfer just the UVs onto the original head model by selecting Polygons, Transfer UVsets.
