    WHAT | |||||||||
"Coronator" is a mixed media paper sculpture and video projection project that brings together imagery of beautiful colorful illusions of melting and burning wax candle animation, and dynamic mobile improvised paper sculpture. I will use white construction paper, inexpensive recycled paper, newsprint, and any white papers that I can find and recycle during my 3 month stay in Taipei. The temporary and organic nature of the materials works into the idea. I arrive in Taipei in November. During my stay, I will begin making light paper sculpture that will resemble a long serpentine train. The shape and length of the entire piece is determined practicality, and has an organic and abstract non-objective form. However the rising peaks can resemble licks of flames. The paper will be reinforced by pine or bamboo sticks, that both support the structure off the ground, and can be picked up and carried, and "animated' by a person or people. The images that I will project on the paper during evening/night hours, will be of watercolor paintings of flames, candles and melting wax. There may also be a sound element as well.. |

| HOW | ||||||||||
I will build the paper sculpture out of recycled paper, newspapers, and papier mache indigents to create a long, flat train, that will provide an excellent projection surface. The materials will be prefabricated, over many months and brought to the park-side of CSCH to be quickly assembled shortly before the dates of the event. I will hire an Mandarin speaking assistant who will help me throughout the month(s) The night (s) of the event, I will rent a video projector that will be strong enough to cover most of the paper sculpture. I will organize a group that will take the "poles" and physically move the paper train as the animation is projected on it, adding this as a performance/animation. |

"Coronator";..although this is not an English word, the meaning of the title and the piece "coronator" was influenced from two sources. One from the word "coronation" which refers to the ceremony for crowning a member of a monarchy. The is an organic resemblance to a "crown" with the form of the sculpture and projection. Secondly "coronator" has a similar sound to "coroner", which is a an judicial official that investigates the causes of death. There is an idea of magical revival, and warning of destruction, and dissolution in one work. The result of the work and projections and performance, can be left to be determined in length and number of participants. |
