Using
your 9"x12" Field sketchbook:
Create
designs of characters that have the same job/activity OR work for the same organization.
Contrast them from one another. The characters may seem similar, but you must emphasize the idea of character NUANCES. Develop traits which set each apart. Make sure you
are developing a wide variety of forms, shapes, body shapes and appearances.
Don't for example, make all your characters tall-thin-anime-like or
all-cute adorable-disney-like. Go for variety. Don't just do your
typical style of drawing a character ..EXPERIMENT! Reach
beyond your comfort zone and everything you think you know about character design!
Create EIGHT sketches of the team of workers/employees, make FOUR final color artworks depicting the each group. You may any color materials for final artwork.
Be prepared to present a back-story to each character, but you do NOT need to explain a complete story that they are within. Simply explain how each character interacts. How they would each react to an dramatic experience? Who would hurt or help the other? Are their power dynamic? love interests? secrets or mysteries between characters? What would change if a new (agressive or attrative) character were added? What might be a surprising way one character might be seen as bending or breaking the expectations of his or her job description? How are stereotypes and archetypes presented in nuances?
