DREAM JOURNAL (sketchbook)

note: if you choose not to do this project, then you must do the novel report project.

Keep your 9"x12" Canson Field Sketchbook (this) by your bed.

Everynight before you go to sleep, make sure the sketchbook and a pencil are closeby.

When you wake up:

(1) take 5 minutes to jot down any detail you remember about the dream. This can be a quick sketch of imagery and some words about what happened or what you saw or felt. images, actions, colors, events..etc. Moreover, no need to illutrate in detail yet, what is important at this point is memory of any particulars of the dream. Do not delay, record you notes the moment you wake up, or you will lose memory.

(2) Later, (or when you have more time) revisit your sketch and notes. You will be surprised how much you still recall about the dream. Do not wait until the next day or the dream will fade:

-In your journal, resketch your dream with more detail and write at least a half a page describing more clearly. Do not worry if things don't make sense and don't try to anyalze yourself or the dream. Just clearly report visually your memory of the dream. You may use colored pencil if you recall colors of the dream.

(3) Do the above process for at least SIX different dreams. You may use different dreams on the same morning if you can recall them.

(4) Choose THREE of your dreams to create a larger artwork/illustration depicting the dream. Color is expected. Use your sketchpad. You may scan/digitize your drawing and polish in Photoshop. Type a short synopsis for these three dreams.

(5) On the 10th week class, turn in your 9"x12" sketchbook, synopsis, and your two large drawings and digital files.
