CAPSTONE GRADING GUIDELINES

WARNING

Capstone plans LACKING AMBITION, not reflecting 30 WEEKS OF HARD WORK, will be rejected.

If your plans are TOO AMBITIOUS, you must seek help from other students early to help you divide the labor. If you cannot show proof of this, then you must SIMPLIFY your plans or it will be rejected.

GRADING for CAPSTONE 1

PRE-PRODUCTION:

Begin by presenting 40 storyboard cards on 1 panels (20 each side)
You will show TWO story or artistic animation ideas. It is possible to repeat this process each report until feedback results into a final direction for you. Even if you are making an abstract, fine art, or experimental animation, you will need to present your strategy.

At each report, you are expected to upload CONCEPT SKETCHES, SCRIPTS, MOODBOARDS, RESOURCES, RESEARCH, COLOR STUDIES, WRITINGS, IDEA SPRINGBOARDS, STORYCARDS, PAINTINGS/DRAWINGS, SAMPLE BACKGROUNDS, SCRATCH AUDIO...or ANY material that may serve the per-production of your capstone. This is the extensive COLLATERAL that you are to turn in with the proper file tree each report.

by midterm and the end of your 1st Capstone:

1)if exceptional progress is made, averaged over 8 reports, you will receive an A
2)if fair to good progress is made, averaged over 8 reports, you will receive a B
3) if average progress is made, averaged over 8 reports, you will receive a C
4) if less than average progress is made, over 8 reports, you will receive a D
5) if poor or no progress is made, averaged over 8 reports, you will receive an F


GRADING for CAPSTONE II

PRODUCTION and POST-PRODUCTION:

You will show ANIMATICS in addition to continuing collateral: MODELS, RIGS, PLAYBLASTS, ANIMATION TESTS, RESOURCES or whatever production work is driving your progress must be completed. You are to show PRODUCTION collateral NOT exploratorymaterial/research.As you finish new collateral, you will CUT NEW MATERIAL INTO YOUR ANIMATIC before each report until entirely finsihed before semester end. You must show a totally COMPLETE film or project by the end of the semester. Final Audio, any voice or music to be completed. NO SCRATCH AUDIO.

by the end of your 2nd Capstone:

1) if 0-4% of Capstone is not finished by Finals Day you will receive an A
2) if 5-9% of shots are not finished by Finals Day you will receive an B
3) if 10-14% of shots are not finished by Finals Day will receive an C
4) if 15-19% of shots are not finished by Finals Day will receive an D
5) if 20% or more is not finished by Finals Day you will receive an F

Finished means: fully colored or rendered, deliverable HD Quick-time movie with complete sound with complete audio (no scratch).
